A spa or hot tub is a wonderful place to relax after a long day of work or play. The constant bubbles and warm water were actually developed as a therapy tool by the Jacuzzi brothers so there is no wonder that they feel so good and relaxing. A pool and spa can be a wonderful addition to any yard with only a little bit of work and regular maintenance.

The first spas are naturally forming hot springs that dot the landscape in many areas. People would travel to these hot-pots as they are sometimes called, to sit in the healing waters. Ancient Romans and Grecians made large bath houses that had hot tubs, cold tubs and large pools for bathing. Many of the elite’s homes had these as well for more person use. Even if it is impossible to have a hot tub at home there are many public and private spas that can be visited, many also offer other services such as massages and facials. Mud baths are not uncommon in the fanciest spas.

For the adventurous spirits out there, there are even portable spas that inflate in minutes and once filled and heated provide all the comfort of a regular hot tub anywhere there is electricity. Add a solar panel or car adapter and they can truly be used anywhere. Just make sure the spa heater is safe for wet outdoor use.

Jacuzzi’s wear out over time, but they can easily be repaired and broken spa parts replaced. Spa covers can get sun and water damage that over time makes them look bad and lowers their insulating qualities. Spa filters and spa chemicals require regular cleaning and balancing, especially if the tub is used on a regular basis. Many people say the heat in a hot tub kills everything in the water, but it is actually at just the right heat for many organisms to thrive, so keeping the chemicals within the recommended range is important. A spa pump wears out over time, especially with heavy use. It is recomended to have a hot tub cover, to prevent debris from getting in.

Spa supplies can be found at many lawn and patio stores, as well as larger hardware stores, online, and at specialty shops. Spa treatments are available in almost every urban area and range in prices from $25 and up.
